Team Summaries Curtis Notes:
The Friday Night Fights continue at Curtis High School Stadium.

Today the bout was between Curtis and Mercer Island. Mercer Island ended up victorious, but a Heavy Weight Prize Fight it was.

1st Quater:
Mercer started the scoring 2:16 into the quater and there was never a gap that long agian to wait for a goal. Mercer kept throwing scroing jabs and Curtis kept responding with counterpunches of their own. With every goal that Mercer scored, Curtis responded with one oftheir own with in 1:30. Round 1 went to the State Championship Runners up.
Curtis 5 Mercer 6

2nd Quater:
The transition and run and gun style of the first quater was countered with a possesion based strong deffensive quater in the second. Round 2 went to the 7th place Curtis.
Curtis 8 Mercer 7

3rd Quater:
The champions came out throwing punches again in this quater and got Curtis to play Mercer's style of game. The run and gun transition type of quater that proved benificial for them in the first. The only difference in this vs the first was that neither team took care of the ball as well as they did in the first. Mercer scored the only goal of the quater to tie the game going into the 4th and final round.
Curtis 8 Mercer 8

4th Quater:
Again the battle changed its complection and mirrored the 2nd quater with ball control and patients on offense. Both defenses played strong possitional defense. #7 for Curtis (Andy Lehr) scored to give Curtis a lead and #7 (Michael Choe) for Mercer responded. #7 (Andy Lehr) for Curtis agian scored to give Curtis the lead with 5:13 left in the game. Curtis made two mental mistakes in the open field getting 2 penelties that resulted in Man up goals for Mercer giving them a 1 goal lead with 2:04 left. A 3rd penelty on the ensuing faceoff gave the ball and a man up situation to Mercer. Mercer used the time to control the ball and once the penelty was up even with double teaming the ball Mercer showed the Championship poise that they have and held onto the ball while keeping it in the box to finish the game. Curtis extended the pressure and doubled the ball allowing an open and dangerous Michael Choe to deliver teh knock out punch with 11 seconds left.

As a coach there are times that kids step up and do the impossible for you that you will never forget. Freshman Mithcell Homeyer who has not played goalie since he tried it once 4 years ago has stepped into the cage as there have been issues preventing the current goalie from playing, He has now played in 3 games with only 2 practices and has opened the season with a 2 and 1 record. He lost this fight, but has shown that he is a Champion in is own right. 3/4 you will forever be remembered for the heart that you have shown. Thank you
