Attention 3rd, 4th and 5th graders: Encinal Afterschool Basketball Season is here! Teams will be competing in the Menlo Park Recreation (Burgess) League. This is a fun, developmental league. No previous basketball experience is necessary. Coaches are parent volunteers. Practices will start in Mid November and teams usually practice 2 times/week. Coaches will set the practice times. Practices can be any day of the week and are held at Encinal School. Although you can list practice day conflicts on your registration, we cannot guarantee that all requests will be accommodated. Games will begin in the beginning of December and go through approximately mid-March. Games are played in the Arrillaga Gymnasium at Burgess Park. This year the tentative schedule will be 5th Grade Girls playing Monday afternoon; 5th Grade Boys and all 3rd and 4th grade teams will play on Saturdays. Mandatory player evaluations for each grade level will be held in the Large Multi at Encinal on November 6th and 7th. The evaluations are designed to begin teaching basketball skills, assess all players and help in team placement. The goal is for all teams to have similar skill levels. Everyone will make a team. The cost for the season will be $125.00. This fee covers league registration, jerseys, equipment and insurance. Players supply their own shorts, socks and shoes. Scholarships are available.
