Description
The 14th season of Encinal School 4th and 5th grade girls’ volleyball is here! The girls will be playing in the Menlo Park Recreation League competing against other area schools. All Encinal teams will be comprised of Encinal and Laurel 4th and 5th grade girls and with balanced skill and experience levels. All coaches are parent or teacher volunteers.

Games this year will primarily be on Thursdays, with a possible overflow day of Tuesdays. The game schedule will be determined by mid-September as it depends on the number of teams in the league. Games begin the last week of September and will end before Thanksgiving. Last year, game start times ranged from 3:40 pm to 5:30 pm. Players need to arrive 20 minutes before start time to warm up. Games are held at the Menlo Park Arrillaga Family Gymnasium at Burgess Park.

Teams will practice one time each week in addition to the game. The majority of teams will be practicing sometime on Sunday (last year Sunday practices were between 11am and 6:15pm). There may be one or two teams that hold a weekday practice instead of Sunday. Please STATE ANY PRACTICE TIME CONFLICTS on your registration. We do our best to accommodate requests, but this is not guaranteed. We expect practices to begin mid September. All practices will be held in the Encinal Large Multipurpose Room.

Mandatory OPEN GYM/Player evaluation for all players will be held on Thursday, September 10, 2015 from 2:30 to 4:00 pm in the Encinal Large Multipurpose Room. Both new and returning players should attend. The open gym is organized to begin teaching basic volleyball skills and to help in team placement so all Encinal teams have players with similar skill levels. Everyone will make a team.

As a group, we will attend a Stanford Women’s Volleyball home game in the fall. The date will be determined later.

The cost for the season will be $120.00. This fee covers the cost of the Burgess Registration fee, PTO expenses, uniform shirt, ticket to a Stanford game and equipment. We are asking that each player supply her own knee pads to ensure the proper sizing and comfort. If for some reason this is not possible, the program will have extra knee pads.

Scholarships are available. Please contact the athletic administrator at afterschoolathletics@encinalschool.com or speak with someone in the Encinal office.

Sign ups must be received by Wednesday September 9, 2015. No late registrations will be accepted. A waitlist will begin after registration closes, if anyone drops out, openings will be filled on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Volunteers are needed to support the teams and make the program viable. Coaches are parent volunteers. Please note on your registration if you can help coach or contact athletic administrator directly at afterschoolathletics@encinalschool

Once placed on a team, player and parents will need to read and sign the Player Code of Conduct. You will not be allowed to practice until this form is returned. All coaches and assistant coaches are required to sign a code of conduct, and submit fingerprints to the School District.
