Dear Parents,

I hope this email finds you well. Summary
Objective: PDP Regional Training Program
At this age group, our goal is to assist clubs in developing their most skilled and motivated players by selecting the top 30 players per region and providing them training 1-2 times per month (“PDP Training Days”) – primarily on Mondays. Qualified club coaches and directors will work with the PDP coaching staff at these training sessions. Most sessions are open to any club coach who wants to attend for coaching education purposes.

From this pool of players, we will form PDP Regional teams in each age group from each region and host "PDP Play Dates" where PDP Regional teams will meet at a common site and play games vs. other regions. This will provide extra training for the top players in each region.

IMPORTANT: No Recruiting Rule
Anyone who participates in the PDP program (coaches, players, parents, relatives) must not seek to have a player switch to a different club team. This rule applies to EVERYONE. It is IMPORTANT to respect each player’s affiliation to the club team. It has been brought to my attention that some parents have tried to convince players to switch from his/her current club team in order to join another team. I want to make this very clear: any type of discussion related to the “NO Recruiting Rule” will jeopardize your son or daughter’s participation in any PDP event. Again, I would recommend you choose your words very carefully when talking about your son’s or daughter’s club team.
Player Commitment
PDP tries to work with the club schedules to avoid or minimize conflicts. However, once the schedule for each region has been finalized, we expect that each player makes the best effort to attend all the trainings and games. A lack of effort or minimal attendance at trainings or games will affect the status of a player in the PDP.

Curriculum
PDP has partnered with ACF Fiorentina, a professional club from Florence, Italy because it believes that Fiorentina has developed a successful youth program based on a scientific method that focuses on developing psycho-motor and coordination skills for young players. The “Fiorentina Method” will be used throughout PDP training sessions. In addition, NorCal PDP plans to invite coaches from other well known clubs (Ajax, Liverpool, Chivas, etc.) in order to expose PDP players and coaches to different philosophies.

Players Showcase
This age group is still fairly young for serious recruiting from any national or professional program. Nonetheless, some of PDP’s most talented players will be evaluated for more advanced levels of soccer such as the U.S. National team, U.S. & international professional clubs, and U.S. Club Soccer’s id2 Player Identification Program Training Camps.

Fields & Schedule
PDP works with the clubs in each Region to secure fields (different sites during the season).
1-2 training sessions a month, mostly Mondays (March-June & August-October)
Regional Team “Play Date” games (May & October) at a common site played in one day – either Saturday or Sunday.

Cost of PDP
The program is free for the players selected to participate in PDP.

Structure of the PDP
Director - Paolo Bonomo
Administrator - Kolby Bains
Staff - various coaches from around Northern California

Communication
The NorCal website is an important source of information – you can check the PDP event calendar by visiting www.norcalpremier.com/pdp/index_E.html.

Email is the primary means of communication by the PDP staff.. If you have questions or need more information, please contact Kolby Bains at pdpadmin@norcalpremier.com. Requests made to the PDP director may not be answered unless an urgent situation warrants his attention; therefore, it is advisable that communications are made primarily with Kolby.

New NorCal sponsor: Lotto
NorCal Premier Soccer would like to thank Lotto for sponsoring its Player Development Program. The PDP coaches and players will be outfitted with Lotto gear.

Summary
Nor Cal Premier’s Player Development Program is constantly evolving. From its beginning 3-4 years ago, NorCal PDP has been structured around a few core ideas. The ultimate goal of the program is to create a profile of each PDP player built from several years of participation at the regional level. This type of player evaluation is more in line with the rest of the world and moves away from the typical “try-out” evaluation.

I am looking forward to a fun and enjoyable 2011 season.

Sincerely,
Paolo Bonomo (PDP director)
