| Team Summaries | Mercer Island Notes: A great game played by both teams! Judging by how each team came out, it was obvious that both teams were compelled to assert themselves as the dominant team. Lakeside came out and won the first few faceoffs, as Trevor Watkins' speedily garnered possession for the Lions. Lakeside capitalized on their first few possessions, and jumped to a 2-0 lead. Mercer Island battled back to tie the game at the completion of the 1st Quarter, as MIHS Senior Co-Captain Luke Conrad canned the first goal for the Islanders, and Sophomore Paul Swanson followed suit. Quite possibly the most pivotal moment of the game occured in the 2nd Quarter, when a referee's perusal of the Lions' Watkins' stick revealed that he was playing with an illegal pocket. The 3-minute non-releasing penalty proved costly, as Daniel Frankel was able to put away two goals, and several other Islanders joining suit, leaving the score 6-2 at the half. Lakeside definitely came out seeking to avenge the 1st half, scoring two quick goals to close the lead. However, the Islanders regrouped behind its solid defense and thier fearless Goalkeeper Joey Solazzi (19 Saves) to keep the Lions from scoring again in the contest. Mercer Island's final scoring binge was capped by Hiro Ishijima and Brad Gillis' goals in the final period to ice the contest. Credit should be awarded to several defensemen in this game. Conor Webster drew a tough assignment, and played aggressively. Peter Smith, a midfielder, did a great job keeping speedy Lion midfielder Colby Emerson to one goal in the game. Great game, Lakeside!
