90 degree temperatures and 30 mph wind greeted Bellevue as they played their 4th game in four days against highly-regarded Coppell, at their 18,000 seat stadium.
Game starts with both teams feeling out each other, and Bellevue struggling to clear into the wind. Coppell opens the scoring when Nate Hruby picks up a deflected ball and dumps it into the net. Defenseman Blake Backer scores his first varsity goal minutes later. Coppell's Alec Lucas, bound for Stonybrook, ruled at the X all game, winning 80% of the faceoffs. This led to a 4-2 Coppell lead at the end of the first quarter.
In the 2nd, Bellevue regains its footing and Nick Hudson scores on an alley dodge down the right side. Blake Samuel and Eric Haehl score from the outside, and the Wolverines pull within one. 6-5. But the Wolverines are road-weary and it begins to show late in the period as Hruby gets his hat trick to put the Cowboys up 7-5.
The third quarter does the Wolverines in, as they find themselves 2 men down again, which was a trend on this trip. Coppell goes up 9-5 on the mismatches, then Sam Leggett scores to get the Wolverines within three.
Coppell's Trent Dennington(Air Force) completes a sock trick with his sixth goal early in the 4th. Bellevue tries but just can't rally the energy to fight the tough athleticism of Coppell. The game ends 13-6, but the trip was a big success for all the people involved.
