Where do you even start with this one? Two good teams competed in a wildly entertaining back and forth affair; it was high school playoff lacrosse at its best and the fans were treated to a show.

Issaquah opened confident and methodic, jumping to a 3-0 lead on goals from Jared Humenny, Max Dahlquist and Kyle Wisler all within the first 4 minutes of play. But Tahoma settled in, disrupted Issaquah flow and got one back to end the first quarter at 3-1.

In the 2nd quarter, Issaquah began a string of bad decisions and penalties and Tahoma was happy to capitalize. The Bears actually pushed to a 5-4 lead and momentarily appeared to have made it 6-4 but the goal was waved off as they had too many men on the field. It was a break Issaquah needed to shift momentum. Tahoma then took a penalty and Wisler found the net man-up to tie the game going into half.

In the third quarter, Tahoma seemed primed to pull away.
On a goal to put Tahoma up 7-6, Issaquah took a late hit penalty - 2 minutes non-releasable. The Bears scored twice with the advantage, stretching to a 3 goal lead themselves and it felt like things were slipping for Issaquah. However, moments after finally killing off the penalty, Trey DeTolla got one back on a solo effort. Humenny followed with his 4th of the night and hen despite giving up goal #10, DeTolla scored again with less than a minute in the quarter to keep Issaquah in it, down 10-9 into the 4th.

The deficit lasted just seconds as James Rauch scored his first of the night directly from the faceoff, just 6 seconds into the quarter to tie the game! On the ensuing faceoff and just 13 second later, Humenny scored his 5th of the game and Issaquah had recaptured the lead. It didn't last long as teams essentially traded goals and game was tied at 12 with under 6 to play - Issaquah man-up!

After a few misses, Rauch stung top quarter to break the deadlock. A minute later, DeTolla completed his hat-trick as he was able to dip inside and finish low. Issaquah had a two goal lead and the ball with 3 minutes left, seemingly in control - not so fast!

Tahoma got one back with 2:30 to play. Issaquah won the next faceoff and had possession under 2 minutes but failed to keep it in the box giving Tahoma the chance they needed. Tahoma tied it and on the play Issaquah took a penalty. Rauch won the faceoff and Issaquah attempted to kill it off but got forced out of bounds and turned it over. On the ensuing Tahoma clear, Issaquah took yet another penalty and things seemed to be falling apart. Tahoma had the ball, two men-up with 17 seconds to play, but Issaquah managed to escape to OT.

In OT, Issaquah lost the faceoff and still one man down somehow managed to survive. Back to even strength, Issaquah managed to force Tahoma into a muffed pass and an over and back. Issaquah took that possession and made the most of it. After a few simple movements, Rauch initiated, rolled back, rolled back again and created just enough separation to get off a rocket 12 yard side arm skipper that bounced high up over the keeper - ball game! The goal completed his hat trick, set off a wild celebration and put an end to a truly crazy 5 minutes of play including the last 3 minutes of regulation and overtime.

Survive and advance!
