Season's End......
Last Updated: 6/7/2008
Although the Mariners suffered a hearbreaking loss in the 11 inning thriller against the hard-nosed Mets, it wasn't as heartbreaking as having to say farewell to the Mariners who played their last game for me. Each and everyone earned the respect of all the coaches with their hard work, as they improved greatly as players and as individuals. They will truly be missed by Coach John, Coach Mike and myself. We also bid farewell to Coach Jim whose spirit and heart helped bolster my own, and salute those Mariners who are moving on to bigger and better things. .

But before they left the ball park, each Mariner was bequeathed a nickname based on how I saw them this past season: Trey was "Roy Hobbs" as his passion for the game of baseball is only matched by the Natural; Thomas was "Hank" as big Hank Aaron was not only a ball player, but also an Eagle Scout, which Thomas hopefully will be one day because of all the time he put into that; Will earned the tag "Bo," afer Bo Jackson, for his great athleticism that we were fortunate to get a glimpse of; Alex earned "Flash" for his super hero-like speed that has yet to reach its full potential; Christian got "Lancelot" for having similar attributes as King Arthur's First Knight, particularly the intellect, Xhjyl was "Titan" for his resemblance to the Captain of the new American Gladiators; Sam got "Clark Kent" because of how he's always hiding the Superman that's inside him - don't be afraid to unfurl that cape, kid; Aaron was dubbed the "Terminator" for his machine-like precision on the mound and his passion oozing out underneath that circuitry; Karsten got the tag of "007" because he performed like a secret agent at all positions.... smooth operator; Luke earned "Anakin" after Anakin Skywalker, even though Luke hasn't watched any of the Star Wars movies.... in one sentence: just take that awesome power and stay away from the dark side kid....; Jesse was "Leonardo" as in da Vinci, as like his Dad, he's a true Renaissance Man; And finally, Greg's nickname of "MVP" is in appreciation for how hard he worked this year at every practice and game, which helped him step up his game in every facet. Somehow, Greg was still as goofy as he was last year, but stayed just serious enough to truly earn his moniker. And with that, the Mariners bid you adieu until 2009.....
