Location: Chabot
League Summary: Based on stellar pitching by Andrew Gabel, a key hit and some spectacular defense, the A's prevailed over the Tigers by a 5-4 score in the North Oakland qualifying game for the Tournament of Champions.
The Tigers took the early lead scoring four runs in the top of the first inning on hits by Rourke Healey and a two-run single by Thuto Durkac-Soma. Andrew Gabel then clamped down, not walking another batter or giving up any further runs for the next five innings. The A's slowly inched back into the game but were still trailing 4-2 in the bottom of the fifth when they scored three runs to go ahead.
The key hit came from Kyle Hamilton-Lecky's two run single. In the top of the sixth, Riley Fitzsimmons led off the inning with a double and Rourke Healey sacrificed him to third. With the A's infield playing in Stephen Capell hit a hard grounder to short, and Langston Walker threw home to catcher Gabe Freund who tagged the runner out by a hair. Peter Counts then hit a line drive to shortstop for the final out of the game.
The A’s advance to represent the North Oakland LL in the District playoffs beginning this weekend.
