Sounds 12 Cannons 4
The Sounds combined strong pitching and defense with timely hitting to defeat the Cannons 12-4 in the AAA tournament consolation bracket on Saturday, June 5. After the Sounds took an early lead the Cannons fought back with four runs in the fifth inning, including a key single from Matt R., but they could not close the gap. Sound pitchers John T., Oliver S. and Noel R. allowed only two hits, while Gavin H. and Joey A-B led the Sounds' offense with two hits each. Both of Joey A-B's smashes went for extra bases. Secondbaseman Garrett B. turned in the defensive play of the game by snaring a hard smash up the middle off the bat of Matt R. and recording the force play at second, and John T. cleanly fielded all seven of his chances.
For the Cannons, Devin M., Madison W. and Eli J. turned in strong pitching performances. Devin M. also started a sterling double play in the fifth inning by charging and snaring a bunt attempt from his third base position and throwing to Dayton S. at first who turned a relay to shortstop Evan F. covering third to catch the Sounds baserunner.
