Why does the third grade boys play
man-to-man in the first half and zone in the
second half? If a team is behind in the
second half there is very little chance they
can come back because the other team can
just dribble the ball near half court and
run out the clock. It should be reversed.
Man-to-man should be played in the second
half and zone in the first. We should also
allow the kids to fast break in the last two
games of the season. The jump to 4th grade
basketball is too big from these 3rd grade
rules. What is going to happen next year
when a kid walks on the court for their
first 4th grade game of the season and the
teams are stealing the ball, running a fast
break etc. They should get a taste of that
this year to understand what is coming next
year. Again, introduce it in the last two
games of the year or the second half of the
last two games of the year. If the third
grade basketball season is suppose to be
nothing but a "teaching" experience then why
not teach them one of the basics of the game
which is the fast break. I can understand
not doing it the first game of the season
but by the sixth game of the season they
have had six weeks of dribbling, shooting,
and the basic rules. Seems we would allow
them the ability to do what comes naturally
to most kids anyway which is to run after
they get the ball. Thanks for your
consideration on these two topics.
