| Description | What’s Occupying Oakland Instructor: Mercedes Foster Cost: $550 Through the lens of the complex issues in our East Bay community, students will examine the issues brought forward by the Occupy Movement and examine the current efforts of the community to create social and economic equity. The socioeconomic history of Oakland and the causes and consequences of its dramatic economic shifts will be examined through literature, film, guest speakers and our own Socratic discussion. Participating students may accrue up to 45 community service hours. Our time will be divided between Piedmont High School and the Together We Can Youth Center in West Oakland.
