Just simply a great ball game. Two good teams going at it for 48 minutes. The fans got a good show and had to be almost as exhausted as the players after watching this one.

Each side's defense played well, shutting out the opponent for long stretches. Both attack units were kept relatively in check as most of the scoring was created from each team's midfield units.

Mercer controlled the opening face and after a solid possession, Jacob Sonkin found David Sandman on the crease for a 1-0 lead. Issaquah established its own possession and 3 minutes later, freshman Travis Wright took a feed from Jon Matusiesky and put a good high bouncer past Noah Symington to tie it up. Nick Tierney scored unassisted at the 4 minute mark to give Issaquah a 2-1 lead. But, with under 30 seconds left in the quarter, Kevin Mahony fed Ben York to tie it up.

Issaquah failed to match up after Mercer won the opening face-off of the 2nd quarter and Sandman found Sonkin. Tierney immediately answered to tie it up again. He collected an outlet pass, ran up the near sideline, kept pushing it...no slide came and he finished himself. Two minute later, Mercer failed to match up and a slow developing transition turned into a little broken play. Chris Hutchinson capitalized and put Issaquah up two.

Halfway through the period, Tierney unassisted again. 1:45 left, Craigh Cornelius found David Campi inside. With 12 seconds left in the half Issaquah had possession at midfield. After a timeout, Cornelius managed to juke two defenders to get across midfield, he pushed it and zipped a pass to Matusiefsky. A bit tied up and being pushed by a defender, Jon whipped it behind his back and it found net with 3 seconds left. Issaquah had held Mercer scoreless for 11:30 and scored 5 unanswered goals to take a 7-3 lead at half.
Everyone knew this ball game was far from over.

Issaquah came out strong in the 3rd, continuing to keep Mercer off the scoreboard and establish possession. Despite the possession though, Issaquah never really got any great looks of their own. Mercer's defense had begun to find its own groove. Score remained 7-3 with 5:07 left in the 3rd. A bad turnover for Issaquah in the offensive end gave Mercer the chance it needed and they finally broke through. Chris Taylor pushed a quick break and after some tic-tac-toe passing found Sandman alone on the backside for an easy catch and finish. Another bad turnover for Issaquah, this time in its own end and Taylor took over for the next minute. He unleased an absolute rocket stick side high that pinged the corner. 30 seconds later, he dodged from 'X', no slide came and he made Issaquah pay. 7-6 Issaquah after three.

Issaquah had a great opportunity early in the 4th as Mercer took a penalty. The Islander man-down picked off a pass and then killed the penalty. Shortly after the penalty expired, Issaquah failed to match-up and Greg Mahony tied the game. The next 5 minutes were deadlocked, each team trading possessions and just plain battling. With 3 minutes left, Ben York drove from behind the cage. Again a slide failed to come and York fired quickly off the keeper and in. Mercer had come all the way back and taken the lead.

Issaquah took a penalty shortly after the next face-off. Mercer capitalized. Greg Mahony again. Mercer had kept Issaquah scoreless for 22 minutes and rattled off 6 unanswered goals of their own. But Issaquah made one last push after winning the ensuing face-off. Cornelius dodged and fired high from a low right angle. The ball found the upper right corner, just above Symington's left shoulder. Issaquah got it back with 50 seconds left and called timeout. After moving the ball behind, Issaquah looked to get the ball back up top to the midfield but Mercer pressured well and a pass got away, rolling back across midfield. Mason Smith made a great check, won the loose ball and got it back upfield. Tierney tried to create off the scramble situation. Stuck inbetween 3 defenders he managed to get a shot off, but Symington made the save and cleared the ball upfield...ball game!
