The rain held off and allowed for a great night of lacrosse...and oh what a good one it turned out to be! This was high school lacrosse at its best here in Washington. Two teams with very similar styles going at it for 48 minutes. A good clean game that saw a little of everything.

Both teams came out intense and buzzing around the field. Craigh Cornelius opened the scoring halfway through the first with a dodge from top center. A minute later, Issaquah failed to clear, Bainbridge pounced and David VanderHoek found the net. Zach Smith then drove the right side and found Dylan Masi on the back pipe for a 2-1 Bainbridge lead. Issaquah answered as David Campi backed up a shot and found Chris Hutchinson all by himslef on the doorstep. Moments later another failed clear for Issaquah. This time Ryan van den Meerendonk pikced up the ball, forced the 2v1 and Willie Delius finished. Spartans led 3-2 after one. Garrett Johnson made 5 saves in the quarter for Issaquah to keep Bainbridge from pulling farther away.

Issaquah scored first in the 2nd to tie it up as Matt Robson gobbled a loose ball on the crease and finished. Bainbridge scored to go up 4-3 and on the ensuing face-off, Issaquah took a penalty. VanderHoek found Masi for a man-up tally. The last 8 minutes of the first half was tight and neither team could find the net. The Spartans keeper came up big this quarter recording 6 saves of his own. Issaquah appeared to have cut the deficit to one, but a Chris Hutchinson goal was waived off for a crease violation. 5-3 Bainbridge at half.

Issaquah came out hungry in the second half. Nick Tierney got things started right away, dodging, planting and ripping one top shelf. Issaquah's defense again kept them in it as Johnson made 5 more saves in the quarter. Jon Matusiefsky dodged and found Robson for his second to tie the game with 5 minutes left in the period. And they headed to the 4th still tied.

Issaquah seemed to have momentum early in the 4th. Cornelius dodged and found Hutchinson inside. Losing angle and feeling a defender at his back, Hutchinson wrapped a no look, back handed shot around his own ankles that found the low corner. The crowd went nuts and Issaquah had recaptured the lead. Four minutes later, Tierney dodged and finished himself to put Issaquah up two with 6 minutes left. Credit Bainbridge for bouncing right back. A shot from Cody Bludorn squeeked through shortly after Issaquah had just killed a penalty. Two minutes later, Delius tied it at 7 just as another Issaquah penalty was about to expire.

Issaquah won the ensuing face-off and settled on offense. Cornelius took charge and split from up top. Bainbridge reacted well with a good slide and a collapse on the crease. But Cornelius found a cutting David Campi sneaking up the same side. Campi caught and wrapped a low lefty shot that found its way through, putting Issaquah back on top with only a minute left.

Another penalty put Bainbridge man-up with 50 seconds to play. The Spartans found a man open on the crease, but the shot sailed just over the crossbar. Issaquah was then able to kill the penalty and hold on for dear life inside the last 20 seconds.
