Game Summary Rainiers 5 Monarchs 3

Defense was the prevailing theme for both teams in the NOLL Tournament Championship game. The Monarchs' Alex R. pitched well for three innings, but the Rainiers still managed to score three runs thanks in large part to solid base running and key hits by Chris C., Zachary S. and Ari P. Nagi O. also had two base hits and a key RBI in the 4th. Rainiers' pitcher Cameron W. had a strong outing of his own allowing two runs over three innings. By the end of 3rd inning the Rainiers lead 3-2, but the game still seemed as though it could go either way. The Rainiers' bats have been active over the last month but many of their stronger hitters had an off day against Monarchs ace closer, Kai H. as he struck out a whopping seven batters. Vincent B. was equally impressive for the Rainiers, striking out eight batters. In the 4th and 5th innings the Rainiers built on their lead by adding two runs, but the Monarchs kept the pressure up by avoiding an out on a pickle play between 3rd and home in the bottom of the 5th. On the next at-bat Rainiers catcher, Jasper S., made a nice tag near the plate to slow the Monarchs' rally. In the bottom of the 6th the Monarchs' Peter W. stole home to score a run, but Vincent then struck out the next three batters to end the game. These two teams will face off for a third time this season on Tuesday to determine who will represent NOLL in the Tournament of Champions on Saturday. Whatever the outcome, both the Rainiers and Monarchs are winners for playing a season full of solid spirited baseball.
