Game Summary | The Cannons escaped with a nail biting victory in a tight contest Tuesday night. The Monarchs scored two runs in each of the first and second innings to take a quick 4-0 lead. Madison W. then took the mound and pitched three shutout innings for the Cannons to keep the game close, with good defense by his teammates, including tough tag plays at second base and home plate by Jeffrey D. and a nice catch by Thomas W. in the outfield. After scoring a single run in the third, the Cannons mounted a comeback with three runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game apiece. Key hits were a leadoff bunt single by Dryden B. and a two RBI single by Evan F. The Cannons went ahead in the top of the sixth with a single run, but the Monarchs came back to tie in the bottom of the sixth, with Phil H. getting the key hit, and the game went to an extra frame. Four consecutive solid hits in the top of the seventh by Eli J., Dayton S., Devin M. and William C. brought the first three home for a 3 run Cannon lead. But the Monarchs were not done as Peter W., Andrew M., Cooper H. and Ben H. hit safely to bring in two runs in the bottom of the seventh before Eli J. shut the door by striking out the final Monarch batter to close a one run win for the Cannons. |
