Issaquah was excited to start the season on the island and came out high energy and in sync! Gaje Gunter went 3g,2a in the quarter backed by some slick shooting from Matt Moss on both assists as Issaquah pushed to a 5-0 lead at the quarter.

Bainbridge remained collected and began to chip away as they finally controlled some time of possession. After two unanswered from the Spartans, Issaquah regrouped late in the half with a man-up tally from Matt Moss. But the momentum swung big time in the last minute. With Issaquah seemingly in control and coming out of a time-out, they looked to recapture the 5 goal margin. Instead a big save and time left on the clock allowed defenseman, Alex Goon to travel coast to coast and after a few face dodges he finished himself with just 2 seconds on the clock to bring Bainbridge to within 3 at half.

The Spartans carried the momentum into the 3rd as Issaquah seemed overwhelmed. The Eagles struggled to clear and several fundamental errors allowed Bainbridge to dominate time of possession in the quarter. Issaquah did manage one but the Spartans found the net three times to cut the Issaquah lead to just one entering the 4th.

Issaquah scored first in the 4th to regain a two goal margin, another from Moss, his 5th of the night. But continued mental errors and lack of fundamentals again tipped the time of possession in the Spartans favor and Bainbridge tied the game at the 7:29 mark.

Both teams had chances over the next 6 minutes but the game remained deadlocked as both keepers came up with big saves. With a minute and a half to play, Issaquah finally had a good offensive sequence that ended in a great look, but Dawson Friers came up huge, Bainbridge cleared and called time out. Issaquah decided on zone, Bainbridge was prepared and simple second cutter over the top freed Merrit McMahon and he made no mistake. Bainbridge took their first lead of the game with just 26 seconds left.

Gaje Gunter won the next face-off clean and raced straight down Broadway but his shot was snuffed by Friers and the comback was complete. Bainbridge overcame the 5 goal deficit and pulled out the one goal win. Exciting start to the 2019 WHSBLA season!
