SUMMARY
In an elimination game, the mighty Astros roared back from a 3-0 deficit to score 5 runs in the 4th and 3 in the 5th to overcome an unbelievable pitching performance by Jude H., who pitched to one over the minimum in the first three frames and only threw 7 non-strikes.
The Astros countered with an ace of their own as Maxwell E. gave up only 1 run and used his blazing fastball to strike out 6 in the first two innings, escaping a bases-loaded jam in the second.
The Marlins only hope was to grind at-bats versus the Astros ace and that's just what they did. For the Marlins, Aaron S. doubled home Joaquin B. to take a 2-0 lead. Liam N. then singled home Aaron to make it 3-0.
But in the Top of the 4th the Astros potent offense came to life. Leading off the inning, the top of the order (Lucas, Thomas, Maxwell) got consecutive hits to make it 3-1. After Jude struck out 2 in-a-row, the Astros Jonah singled to make it 3-2 and Nathan S. drove in the decisive runs on a triple to pull ahead 4-3 and force the Marlins ace out of the ballgame. Dylan then singled home Nathan to make it 5-3.
The Marlins manufactured a run in the 4th as Tyler hit an RBI groundout, scoring Oliver to pull within one run 5-4.
In the T5, the Astros pulled away on a double by Lucas, scoring Sam and an RBI single by Maxwell to make it 7-4. A two-out bases-loaded, full-count walk plated Thomas for the final run of the inning (8-4), chasing the Marlins reliever and bringing in Aaron S. to pitch, who struck out the only batter he faced.
The never-say-die Marlins manufactured the final run of the ballgame on a Hayden RBI groundout, scoring Leo to make it (8-5).
The crafty super-reliever Nathan S. fittingly made the last play of the game himself to earn the win and help the Astros advance.
