Lugnuts Notes:
This game was a pitcher’s duel: there were few baserunners on either side, and that meant that every play mattered. Lugnut pitching was excellent throughout. David yielded just one run in two innings, and Jake — making his pitching debut — gave up just one run too. Elijah faced the minimum 9 batters over his 3 innings, striking out 8 and getting some assistance on the ball-in-play from Maxie at 3rd base and Quinn at first. Two defensive plays during Jake’s inning made a big difference: Leo at shortstop nabbed a runner trying to steal home with a fine throw to Kellen, who as catcher made a quick and excellent tag; and Jake helped himself defensively by catching a line drive off the mound. Big hits to the outfield were supplied by Maxie (who then stole home by sliding under the catcher’s glove), David, and EJ. When all was said and done, the Lugnuts had squeaked out a one-run victory. One last thing to note (and be proud of as a team): with Jake having taken the mound, all 12 Lugnuts have now toed the rubber.
