Team Summaries Express Notes:
The comeback kids strike again! Down 8-0 after an inning and a a half to the visiting Owlz, the Express rallied to take the lead heading into the top of the sixth before settling for a 12-12 tie on Sunday afternoon at Back Caldecott.

The Owlz jumped out to a big lead early and things did not look good for the Diesels heading into the bottom of the second. In the top of the first, the Owlz plated three behind big hits from Marcus O and Noah C. In the top of second, the Owlz piled on another five runs behind several walks and a big hit by Makai M. 'That was a very tough inning,' said coach Brook after the game. 'The silver lining, though, was that Jonah L pitched well in relief of Tyler J., and we had a couple of nice force plays at the plate. The Owlz were just hitting the ball hard.'

In the bottom of the second, the Locomotives began to mount a comeback. Sam W-S led off with a single off the outstretched glove of the Owlz first baseman. After a walk to Tyler J. and infield hits by Aidan D and Alex N., Cole E. came through with a sold single up the middle. When the dust settled, the Express had cut the lead in half and went to the top of the third trailing 8-4.

In the top of the third, Ari F. took over on the bump and limited the Owlz to three runs over two innings, striking out three. Ari also got some help from his defense - notably from SS/2B Kiran K. In the third, Kiran stopped a rocket shot of a ground ball and kept his composure in time to the make the throw to first for the out, and Kiran ended the fourth with a nice catch on a line drive. Ari helped his own cause too - hustling to snag a pop-up in front of the mound in the fourth. 'I love Ari's motor,' said Coach Brook after the game. 'He hustles on every play and runs hard after every ball.'

While Ari and the defense were keeping the Owlz in check on the mound, the offense came through - scoring one in the third and five in the fourth to draw to within a run, 11-10, after four. In the third, Sommers D-N drove a hard line drive up the middle to center, and he came in to score on Tyler J.'s towering double to deep right field.

In the fourth, singles by Alex N., John S., and Cole E. set the stage for a five run inning, capped by a double by Sam and a single by Tyler.

In the top of the fifth, Sommers took the hill and shut down the Owlz, retiring three in a row after giving up a lead-off single. Sommers needed just 12 pitches to get through the inning, added by a nifty racing catch in left-field by Aidan D and C Tyler's play on a pop up in front of the plate. 'I really liked what Sommers did out there today,' said Coach Brook after the game. 'He threw strikes, and our defense made plays.'

In the bottom of the fifth, the Express completed their comeback, taking a 12-11 lead after Cole E. drove in Aidan D and Alex N with a sharp single. 'He was dialed in all game,' said Coach Brook of Cole, who went 3 for 4 on the day. 'I was very pleased with his hitting - he is a really important part of our offense.'

In the top of the sixth, though, the Owlz fought back - getting another timely hit by Makai to drive in the tying run. With Makai at third representing the go-ahead run, pitcher Liam D was able to get out of the inning, retiring the Owlz on a come-backer to the mound. 'A really well-pitched inning by Liam,' said Coach Brook. 'He did it all that inning - a strike-out and two come-backers that he fielded cleanly.'

With the game knotted at 12, the Express headed into the bottom of the sixth looking for one more comeback and hoping to avoid their third draw of the season. One-out singles by Liam and Sam set the stage for a dramatic walk-off, but it was not to be. Owlz pitcher Sam D got a strike out and a pop out in front of the mound to end the game.

'Of course you'd like the win,' Coach Brook said after the game, 'but more important to me was that our guys kept fighting and stayed in the game. I literally could have given a game ball to every player today, but I was happy to give it to Sommers for his solid pitching in the fifth which kept us in the game - that was a huge inning for us. Now, we're on to the Naturals on Tuesday.'
