Team Summaries Express Notes:
The resilient Express mounted another comeback this afternoon, plating the tying the run in the bottom of the sixth, but the Diesels couldn't manage to get the one extra hit they needed to notch the 'W,' and came away with a 2-2 tie against the Bats.

Trailing 2-1 going in to the bottom of the final inning, Sommers D-N lead off with a scorching triple to right that had the home crowd at Back Caldecott on its feet. Aidan D followed with an infield dribbler that brought Sommers in to tie the game. After Alex N was hit by a pitch, Ari F moved the runners up with a grounder to first, and Jonah L walked, the Express looked to be in line for the walk-off win. The Bats buckled down, though, striking out Kiran K to end the threat - and the game.

While the Express struggled to get much going offensively, they continued to get great performances out of their pitching staff and defense. Sam W-S started for the Locomotives and looked sharp. After giving up a run in the first on walk, a bunt, and bloop single into right center, he settled in and struck out the last four Bats he faced, needing only 15 pitches. After Sam, it was Kiran K's turn on the hill - his first such outing of the year. There was no rust to be seen, however, as Kiran needed just 12 pitches to get through the inning. He was aided by catcher Sam, who threw out two Bats in the frame.

Righty control artist Aidan D came on in the fourth and held the Bats to just one run, while striking out three. In the fifth, it was Liam D's turn, and the lefty had another effective outing, striking out three and holding the Bats scoreless over the last two innings despite having a runner at third in both innings. He was helped by some nice plays in the field by Kiran in right and Jonah at first.

The Express got on the board in the bottom of the first on a Liam double that scored Jonah. After that, though, the Bats held the Express scoreless through the fifth - behind good pitching and stellar defense.

After the game, Coach Brook told the Express players that he was encouraged by the team's pitching and defense and reminded them how close they were to getting the win. 'I am very happy with how we're playing. We haven't been getting the timely hits we need, but those will come. For now, we're on to the T-Rats next weekend.'
