| Team Summaries | Overlake Notes: The Klahowya (Kla-How-ya) Eagles and their fans made the trip across Puget Sound on a beautiful Saturday afternoon to face the Overlake Owls on their home turf in Redmond. Klahowya was coming off a big win against a Gig Harbor team that had given the Owls a close, hard fought game only a week earlier. The stage was set for what promised to be a great afternoon of lacrosse. The Owl offense has been somewhat inconsistent thus far in the season. Sometimes starting fast and finishing slow.. Other times starting slow and finishing strong. Today was destined to be different. Overlake’s offense exploded in the first period with the pedal to the firewall and were hitting on all cylinders for the entire day. Klahowya is a very well coached and disciplined team but the ball bounced Overlake’s way today to the delight of the Owl’s home field crowd. The Eagles scored their first goal at the 6 minute mark in the first period but wouldn’t find net again until the 4th period with 10 seconds remaining in the game. Credit the Overlake defense anchored by Seniors Bryce Remington, Kevin Sample and Jackson Gartman for keeping the ball away from the Eagle shooters all afternoon. Overlake goalkeeper Alan Kassis only faced 4 shots on goal all day saving two of them. Klahowya was creating good opportunities, but the solid Owl defense deflected numerous shots and occasionally “took one for the team” by blocking shots with their bodies. The score was 10-1 Overlake at the end of the first period ending up 20-2 after all 48 minutes were gone. Surging sophomore attack Colton Umberger put up another stellar 7 point game finishing with 4 goals, three assists and picking up 5 groundballs. Junior attack Barrett Jenness led all scorers with 5 goals, 1 assist and 5gb. Senior attack Frost Cunningham finished with 4g, 1a and 2gb while freshman attack Kenny Dyer had a career day tallying 4 goals. The Overlake midfield again dominated at the face-off X with Eric Risa winning 12 of 13 (92%) of his face-off’s and adding 2 goals, 3 assists and 15 groundballs. Kinori Rosnow had 1 goal, 1 assist and 6 gb’s while Curtis Yokoyama played a solid game on defense and contributed 2 assists and 2 gb’s. Klahowya is a play-off caliber team that is far better than today’s score would suggest. Expect Head Coach Rob Hawley, himself a two-time All-American from Harvard, to use the lessons from this game to help hone his teams focus and intensity for the playoffs. Klahowya Notes: |
