Stanwood – Monroe proved they are a young program on the rise by playing a tough 1st half of ball. Down 1-0 after the 1st, the visitors stormed back on 2 of Hunter Day’s eventual hat trick of goals to trail at half 3-4. After the half, Stanwood’s upperclassmen, led by 2 of Michael Sams’ game-high 4 goals, found a scoring rhythm and were able to pull to a 10-4 lead in the 3rd quarter. The two clubs exchanged goals in a very physical 4th quarter. Frank Medlicott also was a leading scorer with 3 goals and 15 ground balls. Stanwood shot 46 shots on the night, while Monroe showed great efficiency, scoring their 5 goals on 11 shots. Forced to play the game in Stanwood without refs (for the second time this young season), the game was remarkable for the sportsmanship of both clubs.
