Team Summaries | Pelicans Notes: On a cold and blustery evening at Willard field, the Pels and Mets opened a home and home weekend series. The pitchers held serve for almost 3 innings, with JaredM and Krusty matching zeroes. In the bottom of the third, the Pels broke thru for a single run on Malibu's bases loaded Sac groundout. It looked like the Mets would get a run of their own in the top of the 4th after their first 2 batters reached on errors and the third batter floated a Texas Leaguer into shallow right. It looked destined to drop in, but Cornflake (who started the play in double play depth) simply willed himself under it for the catch, then turned and fired home to nail a tagging Met at home. Inspired by his defense, Krusty induced a groundout to end the inning. The Pels' offense was inspired, too. Tigger led off with a single and Bass followed with a BLAST to right center. We all thought it was a triple until Bass ran thru a stop sign at third for the score! Later in the inning, Krusty plated Sarge on a perfect suicide squeeze to put the Pels up 4-0. The Pels added another crooked number in the 5th. The Perfessor started things off with a single, several Pels kept the bases loaded until Krusty finished off the scoring with a 2-RBI laser to left. The 7th and final frame, like so much of this game, belonged to Krusty. He might not have been able to feel his fingers thru the arctic Willard microclimate, but he was able to close out a complete game with 2 Ks and a pickoff at second base. Congrats to Krusty: Mets Notes: |
