A big crowd and the Comcast cameras were treated to a very well played ball game by two very good teams.

A penalty right at the first face-off set the tone for some good physical play. Issaquah captialized and Todd Jones found Jake Fritz at the back pipe for the man-up finish. Fritz then capitalized on defensive mistake as Mercer threw the ball away. Fritz snagged it right in front of the cage and put it away for a 2-0 lead. Jon Wettack answered for the Islanders with an incredible solo effort making his way through four defenders for the lefty finish. Kevin Powers scored his own lefty rip to answer for Issaquah. As the quarter closed, Mercer pushed the cage with urgency and scored with one second on the clock. This would become a trend for the night and Mercer got the better of late quarter play.

Evan Greenhall broke the ice in the second quarter with a hard dodge and finish but Mercer scored on a break from the ensuing faceoff to get it right back; great ball movement from Tierney to Shields to Bernal to Johnson. Greenhall then initiated again and this time found a cutting Jake Fritz on the low crease to put Issaquah back up two. With under two minutes in the quarter Mercer again played with urgency. Out of time out, Mercer misfired and then put the ball on the ground. Issaquah had a chance to win the ball and didn't. It proved costly as Jon Wettack capitalized on the second chance and rifled one to the top corner. They followed with another goal as Daniel Shields was able to dip inside his defender and dunk one to tie the game. 5-5 at half.

Both teams settled in the 3rd quarter...several long possessions...both keepers made saves and it seemed as though the quarter might go scoreless but once again Mercer scored late in a quarter. Doug Mahony was able to inside roll and lay out across the front of the crease to put one home for the Islanders first lead. This time Issaquah had an immediate answer and a late goal of their own. Jake Fritz put on an inside roll himself and managed to dunk it lefty just before the horn sounded. 6-6 headed to the 4th.

Looked like it was headed for an epic finish, but a costly mental error gave Mercer the edge it needed. After Jon Wettack put Mercer up one, Issaquah subbed a 5th pole onto the field. After the flag down, Issaquah made it worse by taking a second penalty. Mercer fired wide a few times and Issaquah almost had the man down killed but Steven Taylor rifled one top shelf to give Mercer a two goal advantage. They would add another to stretch to a 3 goal lead before Todd Jones did some quick solo work with 4 minutes to play. Mercer killed a chunk of clock but Issaquah was able to double, strip and had a decent chance to cut it to one. The shot went wide though and Issaquah failed to back it up. Mercer cleared and used its timeouts well to kill off the last minute.
