Game Overview:

Tacoma traveled to Redmond for the quarterfinal game under clear skies. Redmond won the opening faceoff, and with just over a minute gone in the game, Tyler Dougherty put a left-handed shot into the upper corner to stake Redmond a lead that would not be challenged. The teams traded possessions until Jake Bernstein drove across the net and scored later in the first period. Redmond’s defense is preventing the Tacoma offense from getting clean looks at the goal, while goalie Travis Jones for Tacoma is denying the Redmond scorers.

Play continued in the second quarter until Dougherty scored his second unassisted of the night, soon followed by Cody Bernstein scoring unassisted during transition while Redmond was a man down. Late in the second period, Harrison Valentine drove to the net, then passed to Hunter MacDonald for the goal when the slide came over. On the ensuing faceoff, defender Sean Shewey scooped the ground ball and drove across the midfield, then fired a goal just as he was taken off his feet by the Tacoma defense. Tacoma’s offense was unable to get a shot on goal during the period as Redmond’s defense continued to play tenaciously.

In the third period Tacoma came out firing, putting 14 shots on goal during the period. The defense knocked down a couple shots, a few were wide of the net, and goalie Nico Shewey proved up to the challenge, turning away 6 on-goal shots. Redmond went to an EMO with 10 seconds remaining in the period, so Jake Bernstein settled the question (Hold the ball and play for possession to start the fourth, or take the shot?) with a blast from 8 yards out to put Redmond up 7-0 at the end of the third.

It was more back and forth play in the fourth quarter until Dougherty hit Cody Bernstein cutting in from X, who shot low past the goalie. Tacoma’s only goal of the game came shortly afterward with less than 4 minutes remaining in the game when Matt Semago hit a driving Bryce Johnson, who fired the ball into the back of the net. Dougherty scored Redmond’s final goal of the night on an assist from Barry McDonough when he was left open in front of the Tacoma goal, resulting in the final score of 9-1 in Redmond’s favor.
