In sports like many things in life you have to learn to adapt, adjust, and overcome. This game was a perfect example of what that means; as these two teams, two former conference enemies, keep their rivalry alive, in a non-conference match-up. Three changes to the field locations due to electrical issues at the HS, a time change, all last minute were not enough to keep this spring break match up taking place.

The final setting became Explorer Middle School in Everett, the adversity created by this field was of significance as the old-school crown must have easily been 3-5 feet in elevation change, but if you were in the stands you may have never noticed, this game was played tooth and nail competitively.

For the first several minutes the ball moved back and forth, with both teams getting good possessions, and multiple shots. Mukilteo struck first at 9:41 with Regan, getting the first tally of the game unassisted. Mukilteo wouldn't wait to long to strike while the iron was still hot, at 6:51 by Varner. Snohomish's defense answered the call and denied access to the goal for the 2nd half of the 1st quarter. The Panther offense didn't wait long to join the fight though, as Hund was able to find the back of the net with 4:09 in the first quarter getting the helper from Sternka. Attackman Justin Jones would charge through the defense with 50 seconds remaining in the 1st frame to tie the game up at 1 each.

Snohomish carried there momentum into the second quarter taking their first lead of the game only 22 seconds into the 2nd quarter, as Steranka got is 2nd helper of the game, giving the ball up to Wirtz on the crease who riffled the shot to move the net. Mukilteo would not the lead last for long as they took advantage of a transition opportunity, while man down, scoring at 10:32 by Linari, tying the game up at 3-3, and ending their 7 minute scoring drought. At 10:02 Snohomish would create the 3rd lead change with a 2nd goal from Hund, assisted by Jones. Mukilteo would create the 4th lead change of the game with two goals inside of one minute, when at 9:50 Wanzer would score unassisted tying it up, and at 9:16 Thompson would need the helper from Linari to retake the lead from the Panthers. Snohomish would scrap back, at 2:58 Hund would tie up the game again, with the 2nd helper from Jones. Both teams would go into a well deserved halftime tied up at 5 a piece, with each goalie playing well; Starkenburg of the Knights recording 4 stops, and Danielson coming with 7 saves in the 1st half.

Coming out of the break the Panther's would strike first, creating the 5th lead change, at 7:36, with Hund finding the goal unassisted. Mukilteo defense would return the favor of shutting down the Panthers for the remainder of the 3rd frame and take advantage of their defensive efforts, by tying the game yet again at 4:12 with Wazner scoring unassisted. At 2:35 Wazner would help Mukilteo take the lead change again for the 6th time, getting the helper from Thompson. The 3rd frame concluded with a 7-6 edge to Mukilteo.

Just 6 seconds into the final frame, Jones of the Panthers would tie the game again at 7-7. Mukilteo would recapture their lead, at 11:18, when the duo of Thompson, assisting Wanzer struck again. Mukilteo would extend their lead, as Wanzer would score for the 5th time of the game at 8:38, unassisted. Snohomish would answer back at 5:16 with Hunds 5th goal of the game, unassisted. Mukilteo would score, at 1:11 remaining, with yet another unassisted goal from Regan. Snohomish refused to be relegated into the lose, and with under a minute to go, Hund and Jones found a kink in the Knight's armor as they kept working the right side of the goal and defense getting off 6 shots. 3 were saved by Starkenburg, but could not be handled, 2 others went wide, and finally with all the suspense a rivalry should have, Panthers Jones found the back of the net with a off-stick hip shot leaving 6 seconds to go in the game, tying it up as the Snohomish Panther's bench erupted with euphoria, and pandemonium. In the following the face-off Nathan Wirtz, of Snohomish was able to push the ball for the fast break, sprint down into the Mukilteo defense and get off an off-stick shot, that was lining up to go in the goal, but Starkenburg, made the biggest save of the game, stepping into the shot, missing it with his stick but getting his hip behind the ball, and forceing both teams into an overtime period.

In OT, Snohomish was able to win the draw, and take it into their offensive end and draw a flag, while getting a shot off. Mukilteo, Man-Down, 1 minute Illegal Body Check. Snohomish brings the ball in to play from X and the feed to the wide open crease, gets knocked down by an extented Mukilteo defenseman, and the ball lands in the crease for Starkenburg, to handle, who looks up and see's his shorty sprinting down field for the outlet. The outlet that ensued landed perfectly in the stick of that shortie, who pushed transition and three passes later, Mukilteo had a one on one with Danielson, and after a fake, and a shot the net moved, and Mukilteo erupted in their well earned victory.

Thanks to Mukilteo for a great game, and good luck to them the rest of the way. We look forward to seeing them in the playoff's as well, and admit to the lacrosse world this is a team that must be taken seriously. All the best wishes of the Snohomish Lacrosse community go out to John Linari and family, as he suffered a shoulder injury and had to leave the game. We pray for his swift recovery, and health.
