Game Summary | On a soggy Caldecott Field, the River Cats boosted their record to 2-0 after a tough win over the 1-1 Devil Rays. The ‘Cats were led by great team fielding and outstanding pitching from their starter, Aidan Barry-Owen who threw two innings of shutout ball, fanning five batters and walking only one. The ‘Rays tied it up at 2 a piece with some timely singles by Yonim Schweig and Cole Isip. Lucas Hanshaw, who pitched one scoreless inning, and Sean Senn both had two long doubles in the losing effort. However, the ‘Cats lineup came alive with a five-run fifth with timely hits from Willy Matsuno, Aidan Barry-Owen, Sol Rapson and Henry Visnick. ‘Rays closer Ryan Cohen held the ‘Cats the rest of the way, but excellent pitching also continued from ‘ Cats Caleb Crayton, Kevin Tolliver and Dominic Conti, who closed the game by staving off a possible Rays’ rally by leaving three men on base. Justin Ross was on his game with 4 steals, 3/3 hits (2 singles, 1 double) and 1 RBI. This sets up next week’s showdown between the ‘Cats and the 2-0 Osprey. |
