Great to face off against Snohomish and start the 2009 season. Snohomish came out strong, opening a 3-0 lead with unassisted goals from Pendergaust, Anderson and McAlister. Back and forth play ended the 1st period 4-2 in favor of Snohomish.
The 2nd period got a bit more physical with Northshore sent to the penalty box 6 times and Snohomish 3 times. Snohomish maintained the lead with 2 scores by Hinds and 1 each by McAlister and Jones, with 3 of 4 scores coming on EMO. NS scores came from Zack Verbeck, Bowen Hadley, Robert DeLisle, Taylor Wisman and Jordan Murphy, and the first half ended 8-7 in favor of Snohomish.
The 2nd half opened up with a tying score feed from Taylor Wisman to Bowen Hadley. Two more like that, two solo goals from Foster Wisman and goals by Robert DeLisle and Scott Barclay opened up a 14-10 lead to end the third. Goals from Snohomish were Anderson and a Hinds-from-Jones score.
The rain and wind came down hard to open the 4th period, with Snohomish finding the net one more time on a Steronka feed to Hinds. That was where the scoring ended for the day, 14-11.
Our hearts go out to Mike Woods and his family. A scrum and pile-up in front of the muddy Snohomish net with 6 minutes to go in the 4th period resulted in a nasty broken leg. Play resumed after the ambulance departed, but a somber mood for the rest of the afternoon.
Best of luck to Snohomish for the regular season!
