Team Summaries | Pelicans Notes: Another tight SOLL playoff game under the lights... This one didn't go extras, but it very well could have. The Pels and DBacks traded 3-spots in the first before the evening settled into a defensive rhythm. Over the next 4 innings the teams each plated one run, but the defenses were clearly the evening's entertainment. Running catches, pickoffs, outfield assists and double plays showed up every half inning. JP Morgan, currently investing in a balanced offense/defense portfolio was the key to the Pels' fourth run when he scalded the only pitch he saw all night into center field to move Lightning to third base and turn the lineup over. The Pelicans pushed across 3 more in the fifth inning. Chester led things off with a rocket up the middle, FishStick smoked a ball to short to reach and then Strawberry bounced them both home with an opposite field clout. PostCard's second RBI single of the night capped the scoring. PostCard and Strawberry did the bulk of the pitching for the Pels, but just as crucial was Bug. After PostCard struck out the first 2 batters of the 2nd, he reached his pitch count and rather than go to Strawberry (who was geared up behind the plate) in the middle of an inning, the Pels called on Bug to come in and get out of the inning, which he did on just 4 pitches. Kudos to the DBacks - playing with 5 pitchers burned or injured they proved that their comeback win over the Astros and their playoff marathon over the Padres weren't flukes. Diamondbacks Notes: |
