Team Summaries Mariners Notes:
If there were no third innings, the Mariners would have had a happy Saturday. But reality was present as the Ms battled the Cubbies, and 8 runs in the 3rd was too much for them to overcome. Jesse did a great job pitching the 1st two innings, getting 3 Ks and only giving up 2 runs. Sam and Alex evened up things in the 2nd as Sam drew a walk, and was doubled home by the A-Train. Alex then took his name-sake one step further by stealing 3rd and then stealing home on a quick dash and a hard slide.. Luke then got a base hit to start it up again, but that was it until the dreaded third. Four errors and four walks later, the score was 10 to 2. After another Cubs run in the top of the 4th, the Ms rallied as Karsten got base knock and stole a couple of bases. Luke walked and stole 2nd, setting up Greg to hit a FC that scored Karsten. Then Will got his spring training out of the way as he roped a stand up triple to right, finishing up 3 for 4 day.

Christian had taken over by now for Jesse, but took a few batters to control that fast ball of his, but still managed to register a few Ks before giving it up to Will for couple of batters, and then to the money man of the day, Karsten. Shedding the catcher’s gear, Karsten limited the Cubs to just three more runs the rest of the game, including an uber efficient four pitch 7th inning. But would Karsten’s efforts be enough for a come-back opportunity?

Down 13 to 4, Karsten started it off with another 1B, stole two more bases, and was driven home by a hard-fought flare to RF by Xhjyl. Xhjyl then scored himself after a Luke double. Greg followed suit with a triple to deep center. Trey then hit a tough one to the SS, which was just enough to get in the 4th Mariner run.

Unfortunately for the Ms, the score of 14 to 8 stayed that way as a lead-off smash by Christian was all for naught, as he was stranded at third when the last out was registered.

Tough game? Yes. Tough outcome? Definitely. Are the Mariners tough enough to come back strong Sunday? I think so, don’t you?
