Game Summary | From the start, the Mercury were a defensive threat, with the score tied at the end of the first quarter. The Mercury batted balls, rebounded aggressively and had a team total 20 steals. Mercury’s Jessica deMesa and No Fear’s Garisha Youngblood exchanged shots to make the game a nail-biter throughout the first half. The score in the second quarter see-sawed back and forth, with No Fear leading only by 2 points by half-time. At the start of the third quarter, No Fear went on an offensive run, led by Garisha Youngblood. No Fear led as much as six points. Mercury’s Kelly McCormick (five rebounds and two steals), Kelly Hosokawa, and Chrisine P. Nguyen stepped up their game and were defensive demons, making every attempt to keep the ball away from No Fear. Haregua Gabreysus and Gracie Beireis rebounded (10 rebounds each) relentlessly to keep No Fear scrambling. Alexa Le orchestrated the offense by making quick passes to her open teammates, had two assists and scored two points. Her first assist was to Jessica deMesa (11 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals) who scored a three-pointer to cut No Fear’s lead to three points. Gracie Beireis and Christine Nguyen contributed six points each to round out the score. The Mercury won their second game in a row and ended the regular season with a bang. Although they didn’t make the playoffs, they had wins against the two top teams in their division. |
