In a clash of first and second place teams in 6th grade boys basketball, the Carlson Quinn & Associates Jukesters edged out the Chicken Bums. Tenacious defense sparked offensive opportunity, as the Jukesters build a nine-point lead in the first half. Ball hawks Nick Mainaga and Niccolo Deluca applied constant pressure in the backcourt, resulting in steals and fast break opportunities. Aggressive rebounding by Victor Verduzco, Rowland Markheim and Andrew Rusca fueled a third quarter run by the Jukesters. Sharpshooter Sean Cunningham (19 points, five rebounds) provided scoring fireworks including a 3rd quarter-ending long three, which he banked in, converting the foul shot to complete a four point play. Niccolo Deluca was two for two from the foul shot line and added two field goals. For the Bums, Zack Bailey featured tenacious rebounding, while guard Tyler Lewis displayed speed and control on the break. |
