Game Summary | On a picture perfect Saturday morning, the Monarchs and the Islanders opened the AAA season in a rousing hard fought game. The Monarchs won 10 to 7. The Monarchs reigned in the first inning; Alex R, the Monarchs’ starting pitcher, retired the first three batters he faced with 10 pitches. The Monarchs batted through the order in the bottom of the 1st and scored 4 runs. Over the next two innings the Monarchs and Islanders each scored, but the Monarchs stayed 4 runs ahead. Grant C came in as a relief pitcher for two innings for the Islanders. In the 5th inning the Islanders threatened, Matthew L the Islanders’ starting pitcher sent a home run blast into the outfield. Ari B of the Islanders got one of his two hits of the game in this inning. The Islanders loaded the bases. Daniel A, playing second, and Andrew M playing first turned a double play to retire the Islanders. So the Monarchs kept their lead despite the Islanders furious rally. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Steve T, the Islanders reliever, retired the side and held the Monarchs scoreless. The Monarchs, the home team, still led 10 to 7, in the top of the sixth inning. Alex L, the Monarchs’ third baseman, playing with midseason form, robbed the Islanders of a basehit. He snagged the sharply hit ball and fired across the diamond to get the runner at first. David B, the Monarchs reliever, pitching brilliantly, kept the ball low in the strike zone, to score a save. He struck out the last batter with a change-up. |
