| Team Summaries | Tucson Xtreme Notes: WOLVES RUN PAST X-MEN The Arizona Youth Lacrosse League (AYLL) Poll ranks the Top 10 teams in the league on a weekly basis. For the third consecutive week, the Tucson Xtreme’s competition has been Top 10 contenders. This week, #7 ranked Desert Mountain (4-1) visited the Old Pueblo and went home with a 12-7 victory. In the opening stanza, the Wolves jumped out to a 3-0 advantage coming on unassisted goals by Kevin Melling (1-0), Brett Klein (1-0) and Mark Primosch. The x-perience was to once again test the character of the X-Men. They came out of a timeout with enthusiasm and 2 minutes later Kevin Sanders (1-0) planted one in the net behind starting goalie Michael Majidi (5 saves) and the Xtreme were on their way. Brendan Moore (1-1) then rolled up from behind the cage and fed a cutting Frankie Armenta (2-0) narrowing the score to 3-2 at the end of the first quarter. In the second quarter the Wolves scored 24 seconds after the whistle had blown when Bryan Melling (3-1) fed Konnor Klein (3-0) x-panding the lead to 4-2. To their credit, Tucson responded as Armenta’s unassisted goal again cut the deficit to one goal at 4-3. Although playing better then they had in the weeks prior, that goal was as close to the top of the Mountain as Tucson would get on this day. Before the period was over, DM increased their lead to 6-3 when the Chase’s hooked up for the Wolves 5th goal. Chase Foley (0-1) fed Chase McKendry (1-0) and K. Klein scored unassisted. (WRITER’S NOTE) Chase Foley’s older brother, Sean, a freshman at the University of Arizona, received a game ball for his effort in Sunday’s Laxcat’s 21-5 win over Texas Tech. As Janet Jackson was preparing her halftime X-travaganza, Tucson gained some momentum by narrowing the gap to 6-4 when CJ Wysocki (2-0) picked up a loose ball and tallied the first of his 2 goals with 56 seconds left in the quarter. That “Mo” quickly shifted back to the Wolves as B. Melling coming from behind the cage scored 2 quick goals in 43 seconds of the third quarter. Those goals double the margin at 8-4 when X-Man Wysocki scored again. B. Melling came back with his third consecutive goal of the quarter. Aaron Wolfley (1-0) scored unassisted and Taylor Mitchell (0-1) assisted Mike Knudten (1-0) as the Wolves finished the 3rd stanza with a 6 goal lead. To their credit, the Tucson Xtreme (1-4) finished the game strong and continued their climb to respectability in the AYLL.
